Title decider? Liverpool host City in an important game for both sides

Big clash: The league leaders could assert themselves and virtually have the title in their hands with a home win - can they?

Hello again everyone and welcome to my latest blog post where I have another LIVE Commentary, this time coming from the EPL where a potential title-decider is being played at Anfield between the league leaders Liverpool and title contenders Manchester City. 

Here are the team line-ups in a pivotal day you feel in the title race:

Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho, Flanagan, Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge.

Subs: Brad Jones, Toure, Agger, Aspas, Moses, Lucas and Allen. 

Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, Silva, Nasri and Dzeko.

Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Milner, Kolarov, Negredo, Garcia and Aguero.

Liverpool will be the favourites to win the game in-front of the Kop, and if they start the match quickly and get a goal then who knows?

City are playing catch-up in terms of the games that they still have to play, they would probably take a draw against a side that are desperate for their first league title in over 25 years. 

LIVE Commentary:

13:31 - The atmosphere in the ground is extremely loud, the Kop is going wild waiting for the teams to come out.

13:33 - The players walk out of the tunnel to loud applause from both sets of supporters, before the pre-match handshakes and greetings are completed. 

13:35 - Both sets of teams are standing on the centre circle while the start of the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" begins, to loud singing from the Liverpool supporters. Powerful.

13:36 - The minutes' silence for the Hillsborough tragedy which happened 25 years ago on Tuesday has begun.

13:37 - The referee's whistle has blown to end the minutes' silence, to a roar from the home Liverpool fans. 

0: The referee blows his whistle to start the match at Anfield.

2: A good tackle from Kompany to dispossess Suarez near the touchline on the flank, amid boos and whistling from the Liverpool fans who recognise City's best defender - who they were told was not going to play today after he limped out of his team's training yesterday morning. 

Concern: Kompany was admittedly "not 100%" fit after he suffered a knee knock yesterday

He is fit to start though, despite wearing a protective brace on his knee.  

3: Coutinho finds space 25 yards out and drives at the City defence, before slicing a shot well wide of Hart's goal. Liverpool have started the game brightly in-front of the Kop. 

5: The first yellow card of the game goes to Liverpool's talisman Luis Suarez after a late challenge on Demichelis. Arguably harsh, Suarez isn't happy with that.

6: GOAL! Liverpool lead with another quick start! Suarez barges Demichelis out of his way before feeding Sterling who goes one-on-one with Hart, passing the ball into the back of the net as Hart tries to close down the space but does the opposite, leaving an open goal for the young English winger to slot home.

Quick and effective: The Kop goes wild after Sterling's opener

7: The Anfield crowd goes wild after Sterling's opener, Liverpool have been very effective from the start of matches, giving themselves a quick start.

10: Good link-up play on the flank by Sturridge and Henderson, a nice 1-2 goes to Sturridge who tries to cross the ball into the box, but the danger is cleared away by City full-back Clichy. 

12: Yaya Toure tries to go on a run into the Liverpool area but holds back a Liverpool player and the referee adjudges it to be a foul, much to the confusion and anger of the powerful Ivorian.

14: City have their first effort on goal from Toure, but the midfielder's shot is very high and wide of the goal, flying into the stands.
He's holding his knee after the shot and is limping 
uncomfortably, looks worrying. 

15: CHANCE! Liverpool almost make it 2-0 after an inviting ball whipped into the box by young English winger Raheem Sterling is found by Sturridge who curls the ball past Hart, but the shot goes wide of the post. Close to doubling the lead, would have been a well-worked goal aswell.

16: Cameras show that Spanish defensive-midfielder Javi Garcia IS warming-up on the touchline, looks bad for Toure who is struggling and probably will not be able to continue.

Toure cannot continue and that's a big blow for the visitors who need an engine like him to power past the vulnerable Liverpool defence and create chances, Garcia replaces him for his 15th substitute appearance of the season. 

Limping off: A big blow for City, as Toure is forced off after an injury while taking a shot 

21: First tackle of the game, and a yellow card for Javi Garcia. He tackles from behind on Henderson near the centre circle and Mark Clattenburg has no choice but to give the Spaniard a booking for a late and harsh challenge. Could have been dangerous. 

24: Liverpool having to do some defending after City push into their area, but then the hosts counter attack with Sterling running past Garcia in midfield before finding Sturridge on his right, Sturridge cuts inside and tries to find the run of Henderson, but gets blocked by Kompany and then Demichelis. Liverpool corner to come. 

25: GREAT SAVE! The Liverpool corner was drilled into the box, and no-one was marking Gerrard who was lurking in the area - Gerrard jumps high to head the ball powerfully towards goal but Joe Hart reacts quickly to parry the ball over the bar and out for another corner. City need to tighten up in defence. 

26: GOAL! Liverpool double their lead! Another corner not well defended by City, this time whipped into the box by Gerrard for defender Martin Skrtel who powerfully heads the ball over Hart's hands into the bottom corner of the net.

Power and pace: Hart could only watch as the ball flew past him into the net

Hart has played well today but he simply could not save that, blink and you'd miss the shot. 

FACT: That was Skrtel's 7th league goal of the season. The most in the league for a centre-back. 

27: Manchester City's players look fatigued and overwhelmed by what they are seeing today. Liverpool have started the game well today but City have not done anything with the ball when going forward and have lost the ball more times than you would expect them to. 

33: PENALTY APPEAL! City are unlucky not to get a penalty after a rash challenge near the touchline in the area by French centre-back Mamadou Sakho who slides across to win the ball from Dzeko driving into the box.

He slices the air instead of winning the ball and catches Dzeko as his legs swing across, lucky for him Dzeko stays on his feet and Mark Clattenburg points for a goal-kick. 

36: City are finally pushing players up the field and pressing Liverpool for the ball, but are not having any clear-cut chances as of yet. 

37: Needless foul to give away by Coutinho, as he slides in late on Dzeko as City win a free-kick just outside the box.
The resulting free-kick is blocked by the Liverpool wall as the hosts clear.

41: Sterling does well to push past the City back wall and hold up play on the flank, before his attempted cross is cleared away by Demichelis.

Coutinho goes on the counter attack and has a strike wide of Hart's goal, closer and better than his first effort but not on target. His team-mates are unhappy that he did not pass to them, as they were in space. 

43: Navas goes on the counter attack and sprints down the flank before finding Silva with a cross into the box, but the fellow Spaniard's resulting effort trickles wide of Mignolet's goal. 

44: GOAL-LINE CLEARANCE! A City header is failed to be dealt with by Mignolet, and full-back Glen Johnson has to clear the danger dramatically off the line. 

45: The fourth official has signalled for 2 minutes of stoppage time to be added on, and City are only starting to realise what this match means in the upcoming future, starting to put pressure on Liverpool which is how they should have started. 

45+1: SAVE! Mignolet does well to deny City from getting a goal back on the stroke of half-time. 

Fernandinho with an off-balance half-volley towards goal inside the box, but Mignolet does well to dive to the effort and parry the ball out towards the corner flag. 

45+2: The referee blows his whistle to end the first-half of action at Anfield, with Liverpool happy to take a 2-0 lead into the break. 

You cannot say that it is not deserved, goals from Sterling and Skrtel have given The Reds a comfortable lead, even though they know that the job is not done yet, after the 10-minute spell of pressure and chances from the visitors, which they should have done from the start of the game. Interesting second-half to come. 

14:41 - The referee blows his whistle to start the second-half, and City kick-off. 

48: Both sides trying to settle and get the best possible advantage over the other..

51: Liverpool supporters angry after Suarez goes down under the tackle of Demichelis, referee Mark Clattenburg waves play on and Suarez is rolling around on the floor clutching his ankle.

53: Another foul protest in quick succession, as Milner tries to beat Flanagan near the area for pace before getting tripped, play goes on as Milner was looking for the foul. 

57: GOAL! City reduce the deficit to 1 goal and make the last 30 minutes an interesting finish. Good build-up play by the visitors as Milner weaves past Flanagan and passes across the box to Silva who taps past Mignolet into the net. 2-1. 

60: CHANCE! City have Liverpool right where they want them now... a great run from Silva who runs into the box and crosses a delivery into the area for Dzeko to latch onto, which the Bosnian striker narrowly misses.

62: GOAL! City have equalised! What a turnaround from the visitors, who looked ordinary in the first-half but have started the second-half better and have asked a few questions of the Liverpool defence, which has eventually paid off. 

More midfield magic from Silva who played a 1-2 passing move with Nasri before a low cross was turned into the net by Liverpool full-back Johnson who deflected the ball past Mignolet (who touched the strike) to give Liverpool a headache.

67: Aguero comes back from his injury absence which kept him out of City's last 8 league matches for Dzeko who has played well today and was unlucky not to score earlier on. 

Sturridge was electric in the first-half but as Liverpool have not had much of the ball in the second-half so far it seems a smart change to bring on a midfield to solidify the team as they look to hold on and avoid a potential loss while also threatening to score. 

75: CHANCE! City almost complete the comeback after Aguero weaves his way into the Liverpool area before feeding a direct pass across the box towards Silva, who slides on the turf to try and reach the ball ahead of Mignolet, but the chance narrowly passes him by. 

77: Yellow card given to Zabaleta for an earlier foul on Coutinho. 

79: GOAL! Liverpool are back in-front! Coutinho takes advantage of a poor clearance from Kompany inside the area, and hits the strike first time past Hart into the bottom corner of the net! 3-2, with just over 10 minutes plus stoppages to play. 

82: City keep up the pressure with a corner kick, but Liverpool clear the danger. 

85: 5 minutes plus stoppage time to be played, the Liverpool supporters are now in full voice as they try to motivate their team to hold on to what would be an impressive win. 

86: Coutinho's goal was well-struck and accurately taken by the young Brazillian, but you could argue that Liverpool shouldn't have been in the position to rely on him to score an important goal like that for the team - meaning that they should have taken their chances earlier on in the match because they could have been 5-0 up at the break.

A warm reception from the home faithful who are giving (hopefully) their match-winner a good round of applause. He has played well today and is replaced by loanee winger Moses who is going to be used as fresh legs.

90: The fourth official signals for 5 minutes of stoppage time, much to the annoyance and nervousness of the Liverpool supporters. They know that City could strike at any time, can they hold on? 

90+1: Liverpool happy to keep the ball, Sterling does well to draw a foul near the centre-circle and waste a bit of time. 

90+2: Milner whips a cross into the box for a City player to head on, but Liverpool clear with Sakho and Skrtel making their presence known in their area.

90+3: RED CARD! Liverpool are down to ten men for the final few minutes of the game as referee Clattenburg brandishes out a straight red card for English midfielder Jordan Henderson, who slid in late on Nasri in a 50-50 tackle.

Was a dangerous tackle and even though he tried to win the ball he did not, and it was unfortunately the right decision for him. He'll miss 3 games now.

90+4: Liverpool take their time, trying to push forward with the ball while wasting time. 

90+5: FULL-TIME! Liverpool hold on for an important victory for them - they move 7 points clear of City at the top of the table ahead of Chelsea who play against Swansea at 4pm today, and City now have to play catch-up if they want to get back into the title race. 

The balance has shifted in the title race now, City are no longer the favourites despite having two games in hand - BUT Liverpool still have to play against Newcastle and Chelsea in the last few weeks of the EPL season.

A dramatic finish to the season is coming up, it will be fascinating to watch.

FA Cup Semi-Final, Arsenal vs Wigan: LIVE Commentary:

Hello again everyone and welcome to my latest LIVE Commentary, where I commentate on the first FA Cup semi-final match being played at Wembley, between EPL side Arsenal and Championship club Wigan. 

A quick notice to tell all of my readers that I will have a few more blog posts published in the upcoming week, with hopefully up to FIVE new posts being posted between now and next Saturday. Just a way of apologizing for other content being late in the future, enjoy :)

Both these sides will fancy their chances of winning this game and thus progressing through to the final in May despite the fact that The Gunners will be the favourites to win the match, Wigan are unpredictable and have the title of the "underdog" which allows them to play with freedom and no expectation on their shoulders.

Here are the team line-ups for the game today:

Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Monreal, Arteta, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Podolski and Sanogo. 

Subs: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Kallstrom, Akpom, Eisfeld and Giroud. 

Wigan: Carson, Boyce, Ramis, Crainey, Perch, McArthur, Gomez, McEachran, Beausejour, McManaman and Fortune. 

Subs: Al Habsi, Barnett, Caldwell, Maloney, Espinoza, Collison and Powell. 

16:50 - The teams are still preparing for the big game, warming up and getting team talks from the coaches and fellow team-mates.

Just a heads up that the match will start 7 minutes later than originally scheduled, at 5.07pm because of the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989, which was abandoned six minutes into the match. The match will be delayed by those six minutes plus a minutes' silence. 

16:58 - 96 seats have been left purposely empty opposite the players' tunnel and each has been draped in a red Liverpool scarf.

The two teams and match officials will all be wearing black armbands in memory of the vicctims, and the captains will lay wreaths in the technical areas before the silence is held.  

The names of the 96 who died will be visible on the electric display, and a number of the families of the 96 are also in attendance this afternoon.

17:02 - The teams are ready to walk out of the tunnel, and are waiting patiently, looking nervously. Who can blame them? 

17:04 - The teams are out, and they are doing their pre-match routine. 

17:05 - Arsenal will be expected to win the game today, but supporters across the world will be hoping that they have not heard the latest news updates in the league, where Everton have overtaken them into 4th place with a 1-0 win over Sunderland today. Morale will decrease if they've heard that..

17:07 - The one minute's silence has been observed perfectly, along with a round of applause around the ground. Great atmosphere. 

Respect: Both sets of clubs observed the minute's silence well before the game.

0: The referee has blown his whistle to start the game at Wembley. What a semi-final in store today.
Sanogo starts a big game for Arsenal in strike, can he impress?

1: A half-chance for Arsenal as Oxlade-Chamberlain does well to go on the counter attack before finding Ramsey, who plays in Sanogo back to Chamberlain, who was not expecting Sanogo to touch the ball on the way towards him as Carson comfortably picks up the ball. 

Half-chance: Oxlade-Chamberlain does well to get past the Wigan defence early on.

If Sanogo had left it, Chamberlain probably would have had a big chance then. 

4: Wigan are passing the ball around well, trying to find space and keep Arsenal away from possession because they know that when The Gunners have the ball at their feet, it could spell trouble for the opposition. Positive start for both sides so far.

5: CHANCE! A superb ball by Oxlade-Chamberlain in-behind the Wigan defence sees Sanogo one-on-one with Carson from 8-yards out, the young French striker heads the ball towards goal but the English keeper does well to block the effort.

Power header: Sanogo came close with a header from close range, which was blocked by Carson

Good build-up from Arsenal, Cazorla with a dinked effort over the full-back to Chamberlain, who did well to set up Sanogo, who almost had his first FA Cup goal. 

7: Good sliding challenge from Vermaelen to deny Wigan striker Fortune from getting in-behind him with a possible one-on-one with Fabianski, and he needed to there otherwise Arsenal could have been in trouble. 

10: 10 minutes played so far and Arsenal could be ahead already. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has played well so far and is key on the flanks as The Gunners look to use his pace to their advantage for the opener.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey looks as if he was never injured as he starts his first game in over 3 months since his injury setback, which is an encouraging sign.

Wigan will take heart from the fact that they are not playing badly, but need to stick closer to the man that they are marking and watch the imposing threat of Sanogo and Cazorla as they look to get forward and provide an upset.

13: Arsenal trying to set up a potential chance, passing the ball around the midfield and pushing Wigan back into their half which is risky (if they lose the ball, counter attack is possible)

14: An inviting long ball by Ramsey finds Chamberlain just onside, running towards goal with electric pace, while goalkeeper Carson comes out to pressurise the young forward, and concedes a corner in the process.

15: The resulting corner from Santi Cazorla is headed clear by defender Emerson Boyce as Wigan look for a breather. Sanogo is found offside after an attempted long-ball does not work in Arsenal's favour. 

17: Wigan's game plan could be risky or prove effective in the long run, to stay in the match as long as possible and hit Arsenal on the counter attack and take their chances if they have any.

Manager Uwe Rosler has done well to take Wigan all the way to the semis so far, but can he do one better and make it to the final? 

19: Wigan are now enjoying a spell of possession, after Arteta clips Jordi Gomez and concedes a free-kick from 30 yards out.

21: Unlucky from Calum McManaman, who gets the ball from a short lay-off by Gomez from the free-kick and bursts past Arteta with pace near the by-line but fails to keep the ball in and concedes an Arsenal goal-kick.

Half-chance for Wigan, Fabianski has not been tested as of yet which Rosler will be eager to exploit..

FACT: Lukasz Fabianski has only played 7 first-team matches for Arsenal this season, and the last was the second leg tie against Bayern Munich early last month.

24: Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain combine well together in midfield, but the final ball to Sanogo is lacking because the Frenchman is being tracked well by the Wigan defenders who are trying their best not to give him any space or time when he gets the ball at his feet. 

30: Some scrappy play and half-chances in the last 5 minutes for both sides, before McManaman sprints past Vermaelen on the byline and has an attempted ball into the box blocked well by Mertesacker near Fabianski's goal. 

31: Signs of improvement by Wigan, encouraging signs that they could score soon if they get more men forward when they have possession of the ball.

Arsenal need to get Cazorla on the ball more or push him into the centre of midfield because at the moment he is drifting on the wing and just behind Sanogo, as if he does not have an actual position.

34: Arsenal do well again to create a chance, but it's off target. Good initial defending by McArthur to block Ramsey from crossing the ball into the box, before Chamberlain beats two Wigan players with an impressive run before the ball falls to Sanogo who lashes at the strike, flying over the bar to ironic cheers from the Wigan supporters. 

The Gunners have done well to create chances so far, but need to get more opportunities ON TARGET. The Sanogo chance in the opening minutes was a key highlight, he probably should have scored. 

35: Arsenal's German forward Lukas Podolski is off the pitch clutching his face while receiving treatment from the Arsenal physio, and the side are momentarily down to ten men.

36: Podolski returns to the field of play as Wigan have a set-piece in a dangerous position 25 yards out. 

37: CHANCE! Good initial defending by Sanogo who does well to head the ball clear, before McManaman has another half-chance as he beats Vermaelen for pace before having a strike spin over the bar. Encouraging. 

38: Better from Wigan once more as they press Arsenal's goal, Fortuné does well to shift his body and have a strike towards goal parried away by Fabianski. 

39: Arsenal have a free-kick on the counter attack, 20 yards out after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain once again looks dangerous on the break, passing the ball out wide before getting bodychecked by Wigan midfielder Beausejour to stop him from continuing his run. 

40: Lukas Podolski takes the strike.... and the shot swerves just wide of Carson's goal as the goalkeeper can only watch in hope. 

42: CHANCE! Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo does well to run in-behind the Wigan defence after a long ball over the top, but his last touch before shaping to shoot is too heavy and Carson does well to anticipate, coming out to pressure the Frenchman and block the effort. Close but still 0-0.

45: Arsenal with some patient build-up play again in the Wigan half, as the fourth official holds up his electronic board to show only one minute of stoppage time is to be played at the end of the first-half of action at Wembley.

45+1: Cazorla has an attempted corner towards an Arsenal player cleared away well by Boyce, who heads the ball powerfully towards Fortuné. The referee blows his whistle to end the half, as both sets of players walk towards the dressing room. 

An entertaining first-half I must say, as both sides have had a few chances to break the deadlock but neither side has been able to do so. 

The most impressive players on the pitch for me would have to be:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Has been electric throughout so far, a great ball to Sanogo who could have opened the scoring early on, and he has been a constant threat for Wigan who have been unable to contain him, like many teams in the league this season.

It has not been all attack either, he has helped at the back when needed and pressured for the ball when Wigan have had possession, which is an effective quality for a young player to have. The desire to win the ball and push up the field on the counter attack, driving with pace. 

I am prepared to actually say that Oxlade-Chamberlain at his age now is a better player than Walcott was at age 20. 

Aaron Ramsey - He has looked smooth in the first-half, rarely making any mistakes passing-wise and has delivered some inviting crosses and balls into the box for Cazorla, Sanogo and Chamberlain to latch onto. All he needs now is a goal to boost his confidence. Encouraging signs so far.

Calum McManaman - Wigan's best player so far. His pace and close-control dribbling has proved a handful for Arsenal, with Vermaelen and Mertesacker having to track back to try and keep up with him.

He needs support from Fortuné up-top if Wigan are going to score, but he has looked impressive down the flank when he has the ball at his feet. Look out for him.  

HALF-TIME: Arsenal 0 Wigan 0
Half-time at Wembley and Wigan will be happy with their work so far.
Arsenal have had a few chances, but Wigan have pressed well and looked pretty dangerous coming forward too.

You can sense the unease from the 50,000+ Arsenal supporters and it looks to be getting to the team. This game and this trophy means so much to them, the pressure is clear to see. Time will tell whether they can get the result they need or not though.

18:10 - The referee blows his whistle to start the second-half of action at Wembley, with the scoreline still goal-less at the restart. Big 45 minutes ahead for both sides. 

49: Arsenal go again and restart their patient build-up tactic, before Monreal is dispossessed by full-back James Perch (remember him from Newcastle?) on the overlap after a pass from Cazorla and Vermaelen tackles McManaman near the centre circle.

50: Another half-chance for Arsenal, as Cazorla dinks the ball over the top of the Wigan defence and Sanogo is held back by defender Ivan Ramis as he tries to shape to shoot. 

Good defending by Ramis, Sanogo would have been through if he had not blocked his run.

52: Scrappy play in the Arsenal penalty area which results in a corner kick for Wigan as Gomez, McManaman and McArthur all try to drive into the box and take a shot on goal. 

53: Arsenal deal with the impending danger and clear the ball away, as Sanogo tries to unleash Oxlade-Chamberlain on the flank but the ball is too heavy for the young Englishman to get to.

55: Better play from Podolski who runs forward towards the byline before playing in a cross, which is dealt with by Boyce who tracks back to deny Sanogo who was lurking inside the box.

56: This is exactly how Arsenal need to keep the pace and tempo of the game, in control of the ball and letting the ball do the work while they push men forward. 

57: Wigan get brief respite as Carson steps up to take a long free-kick near the corner flag after Ramsey is barged off the ball by Perch before handling the ball (believing that the referee will stop play for a foul, but does not). Foul for handball.

58: PENALTY! Wigan are given a penalty after McManaman drives into the box and is stopped by Mertesacker who slides in harshly and fails to win the ball. 

Late challenge: Mertesacker gave away a penalty after McManaman burst into the area.

Golden opportunity: McManaman was Wigan's best player, and gave the underdogs a penalty

59: Wigan have the opportunity to break the deadlock on the hour mark, tense atmopshere now. But, the penalty will be delayed as Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal is injured down on the turf after a foul in the build-up from McManaman, who held him back.

73: Arsenal have a corner, with Cazorla stepping up to take it. Some encouraging support from The Gunners, who are all tentatively expecting something big from their team in the last 20 minutes.

74: Good save by Scott Carson after a well-drilled strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from 20 yards out.

75: The Gunners push Wigan back into their half as they increase the pressure on The Latics. 

76: The main issue for Arsenal so far is that they have been wasteful with possession and chances today, but they have to realise that they are still in the match and need to score soon otherwise they WILL be knocked out.

77: Free-kick goes Wigan's way after another lacklustre challenge from Arteta, who clips Nick Powell's heels 25 yards out, in a dangerous position. 

Arteta has not played particularly well today, that's an understatement. Every time he's had the ball at his feet he has looked tentative and passed the ball backwards instead of forwards, he has given away a few challenges and has not got the pace to catch up with the Wigan players on the counter attack. 

78: Arsenal attempt to break with Giroud, Ramsey and Sanogo in space, but Jordi Gomez "takes one for the team" and slides in on Giroud harshly. Play continues on the advantage, and the Arsenal move breaks down with Gomez getting a yellow card at the end of it. 

80: Sums up Arsenal's luck in this game. Sanogo hits the woodwark after an inviting delivery from Sagna into the box and Wigan clear.

81: A good save from Steve Carson who does well to block a powerful header from English full-back Kieran Gibbs, who bursts into the box past the defenders and has his header parried away. 

83: GOAL! Arsenal finally equalise and you cannot say that it was not coming. They hit the post, and then had a goal cleared off the line in the last 10 minutes, but it will not be enough.

They push men inside the Wigan area and it pays off as Oxlade-Chamberlain hits the ball down off the ground, bouncing past the Wigan defenders to Mertesacker, who heads the ball past Carson into the bottom corner of the net.

90: The fourth official has signalled for 5 minutes of stoppage time to be added on at the end of the second-half.

3 of those minutes are for Monreal's groin injury delay, just before Wigan scored from the penalty spot. 

90+1: Both sides press for the winner as Arsenal push forward on the counter attack and Wigan win set-pieces in dangerous areas. Who will win?  

90+2: Wigan corner taken by Jordi Gomez is whipped into the box low and hard, but Sanogo heads clear and Arsenal try to move on the break, before Oxlade-Chamberlain is flattened and Arsenal have a free-kick, with a chance to push forward. 

90+4: Just a minute of stoppage time remains for one side to score the winner, otherwise extra time is needed to separate the two teams. 

90+5: The referee blows his whistle to end the 90 minutes at Wembley. Extra time is needed to separate the two sides, a nervous 30 minutes coming up. 

19:05 - The first-half of extra time begins. 30 minutes to follow, it's still too close to call but you'd think that Arsenal have the momentum after Mertesacker's equaliser.

92: Powell has a direct shot towards goal fire over Fabianski's goal as Wigan try to get back into the lead quickly and hold on for a historic victory.

93: Scrappy play again as Arsenal press for another goal, Ramsey weaves his way past two Wigan defenders, avoiding tackles before having an attempted strike blocked before an inviting ball into the box for Sanogo just drifts past the long legs of the young French striker.  

95: Arsenal push men forward as they are desperate for a goal now, Wigan are trying to push them back beyond the centre circle but every time they get the ball, they lose it again. 

97: Good save again from Carson to deny Sanogo from scoring his first Arsenal goal, before an Arsenal corner is partially cleared away and Sanogo does well to have another attempt on goal, this time though going off-target. 

98: Wigan goal-kick to come. Carson will take as long as he wants, it's understandable but frustrating for the Arsenal supporters. 

99: Per Mertesacker does well to deal with the impending danger from young midfielder Nick Powell who runs past him to try and get the ball inside the area, he blocks him off and clears the ball away as Arsenal push forward once more.

100: Wigan are doing well to keep up the pressure on Arsenal when they have the ball, but fatigue and a lack of concentration is starting to creep in from some of the players.

101: Good diving block from full-back James Perch to stop Oxlade-Chamberlain's strike towards goal after Wigan lose possession just outside the box. Good recovery.

103: Wigan have a set-piece 30 yards out after Arteta holds back Gomez, Arsenal clear but the ball comes back into the Arsenal area until Sagna deals with the danger and cleanly tackles Fortuné near the corner flag. 

104: Arsenal happy to keep the ball as they see out the last moments of the first part of extra-time. 

105: The referee blows his whistle to end the first half of extra time in a tense game. If it stays 1-1, the match will go to penalties just to add to the pressure and drama. 

19:21 - Both managers are trying to encourage their team, with Wigan looking as if they will be happy to take penalties. A dangerous game to play, but neither side look like they will score imminently. 

19:22 - The referee blows his whistle to start the second period of extra time, after a very brief break in play. Wenger is looking nervous while Rosler looks calm and composed. 

107: Arsenal have a free-kick near the corner flag, whipped into the box by Cazorla... cleared away by the Wigan defence. 

109: Fabianski rushes out of his goal to try and beat Powell for pace towards the ball on the flank, but when he realises that he is not quick enough to get there, he backtracks into his goal and Arsenal defend the danger well enough to clear. Momentary lapse of nervousness. 

110: CLOSE! Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drives forward past the Wigan defenders again before striking the ball well towards goal beating goalkeeper Carson who can only dive and hope he gets a touch on the ball. 

Chamberlain's effort was well-struck, and hits the crossbar! Unlucky from the young forward, best player for Arsenal today and my Man Of The Match.
112: Wigan enjoy a spell of ball possession as James Perch holds up play on the flank while waiting for the run of his team-mates.

He sees Fortuné and Collison running upfield and crosses the ball into the box, Collison heads the ball towards goal but Fabianski looks on as the effort goes wide of the post.

A smart substitution from Wenger sees Ramsey being replaced by experienced midfielder Kallstróm with just over 5 minutes to play. The last thing Arsenal need right now is another injury, Ramsey playing 120 minutes on his return to first-team football could do just that. Good decision.

115: CLOSE! Nick Powell shows his pace and good dribbling to burst past Vermaelen and hit a shot towards goal, but the strike trickles past Fabianski who is standing on one-knee and goes out for a goal-kick.

117: You can see that some of the players are struggling with cramp, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has started doing stretches while jogging uncomfortably.

119: Just a minute left of the game, as the cameras show both sets of supporters looking very nervous as the possibility of penalties becomes real.

120: The fourth official signals for one minute of stoppage time to be added on at the end of the match (apart from penalties), with Arsenal pushing men forward trying to score a late, late winner.

120+1: The referee blows his whistle, and penalties are needed. What a dramatic way to end a pulsating game. Still too close to call, Carson has played well today and Fabianski was unlucky not to save Gomez's penalty which gave Wigan the lead earlier on in the second-half.  

Both sets of players are tired and full of cramp, more unpredictability for the penalty shoot-out. If Arsenal lose, Wigan go to the final as the defending champions.

Jean Beausejour vs Fabianski - GOAL! Nicely taken, sends Fabianski the wrong way. Top class finish.

Olivier Giroud vs Carson - GOAL! Finesse from the French striker Giroud who sends Carson the wrong way to make it 3-1.

A tense finale to a great game, which Arsenal have somehow pulled out to progress to the final, where they will play either Sheffield United or Hull City.. Wigan will feel hard done by that they were unable to win but should take heart from the fact that they narrowly lost a game which could have gone either way throughout and was too close to call.

Arsenal need to realise that they need to be more clinical with their chances because there were 3 or 4 clear goal-scoring opportunities that they failed to convert, but they now need to focus on getting the best possible league finish in-time for a cup final at Wembley in a months' time. 

UCL Quarter-Final Action, Chelsea vs PSG - LIVE Commentary:

Hello again everyone and welcome to my latest blog post, which is a LIVE Commentary of the UEFA Champions League 2nd Leg Quarter-Final being played at Stamford Bridge tonight between French champions PSG and 2012 Champions League winners Chelsea.

There will also be LIVE updates from the match between Dortmund and Real in the other quarter-final match of the night (0-3 Real lead on aggregate) as well as goal updates if there are any!

Chelsea will have to perform well if they are to overturn a 3-1 lead and progress to the semis of the UCL

This is sure to be an intriguing game which may or may not live up to its expectation after an end-to-end first leg in the Parc des Princes last Wednesday, as PSG currently hold a 3-1 advantage lead going into the match. 

Goals from Ezequiel Lavezzi, an own goal from David Luiz and a late solo effort from Javier Pastore have given PSG an advantage going into the second-leg tie at Stamford Bridge tonight, but Chelsea will feel that they can still progress as long as they get the job done. 

A crucial away goal was scored last week at the Parc des Princes by Hazard from the penalty spot, which may end up benefiting The Blues greatly. IF Chelsea win the game 2-0, they will progress (away goal rule applies)

Here are the team line-ups going into the match:

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Lampard, Willian, Oscar, Hazard and Eto'o. 

Subs: Schwarzer, Cole, Kalas, Mikel, Schurrle, Ba and Torres.

A strong Chelsea side despite having no Ramires and Matic in the midfield, Eto'o will be desperate to get on the scoresheet while Hazard will look to run on the flanks and get in behind the PSG defence, to frustrate them. 

PSG: Sirigu, Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Verratti, Motta, Matuidi, Lucas, Cavani and Lavezzi. 

Subs: Douchez, Marquinhos, Digne, Van der Wiel, Cabaye, Menez and Pastore. 

An impressive PSG side even without Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic tonight, with Cavani deputising in the centre of attack.

Pastore and Menez are among the substitutes for PSG, with former Newcastle creative midfielder Yohan Cabaye also on the bench in an overall strong line-up. 

19:45 - The teams are ready for the game, and are awaiting confirmation to kick-off from the referee.

0 - The referee blows his whistle, and the game has begun at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have it all to do tonight, but nothing is impossible and if they start the match off well then there is no reason why they cannot progress to the semi-finals.

PSG know that if they box Chelsea in and manage to score, you'd feel that Chelsea will struggle even worse to comeback. And PSG are no pushovers, either. 


1 - Some early nerves from Azpilicueta as he loses ball possession to Verratti, who is closed down well and Chelsea restart play from the back, passing the ball as precisely as they can despite PSG pressure. 

3: Referee blows his whistle for a foul after Chelsea defender Cahill clips PSG winger Lavezzi's ankle in a 50-50 challenge, the defender is not happy with the decision but the replays show that there was no contact on the ball. 

4: An early chance for Chelsea as an inswinging free-kick from 25 yards out at an awkward angle is given, after former Chelsea defender Alex barges Hazard down to the turf. 
Clumsy set-piece to give away. 

5: The set-piece comes of nothing, luckily enough for Alex. Good defensive work by PSG to clear the danger as they spread out. 

7: Chelsea feel hard done by again after a sloppy pass from Lampard is capitalized on by Lucas who starts to sprint out of the blocks with the ball, but Lampard chops him down despite getting a slight touch on the top of the ball, the referee pulls the play back for a free-kick. 

Replays show it was the correct decision, Mourinho feels aggrieved. 

8: Chelsea have a corner after Oscar does well to skip past Jallet on the flank before dinking the ball to Eto'o, who shapes to shoot but is denied well by a defensive block from Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva. 

9: A free header goes unpunished as the ball trickles out for a PSG goal-kick and Chelsea players have to drop back. 

10: 10 minutes played in the Dortmund vs Real match, nothing really to report though.
Bale and Modric looking dangerous on the counter attack for Real, on a heavily wet pitch. More updates to come later on. 

12: PSG get away with one after an attempted back pass to Italian goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu ends up with Eto'o chasing him down for the ball, barging him off the ball. Foul given. 

15: Good passing build-up play from PSG as they try to get in-behind the Chelsea defence. 

16: Chelsea's Belgian winger Eden Hazard looks to be struggling with a knock of some sort, and he cannot continue..

17: Mourinho about to make a substitution, with Schurrle warming up.

18: A big blow for Chelsea's hopes of progressing through to the next round, Hazard brings magic and creativity ability to the side while Schurrle has not really been given a chance to express himself in big games so far for The Blues since his £17million move from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. 
How much of an impact will it have on Chelsea? Time will tell. 

23: A cynical foul from Willian as he slide tackles across to stop Lucas from going on a bursting run into the box, the referee blows his whistle for a free-kick from 25 yards out with Willian being the first player to get a yellow card tonight. 

24: Lucas is walking off the pitch to receive treatment after the hefty challenge, and the match restarts with Cavani having his free-kick blocked by the Chelsea wall. 

GOAL UPDATE:
It's deserved, and Dortmund have just made the tie interesting as German winger Marco Reus breaks the deadlock in the 24th minute to give the hosts hope of a great comeback!

He took advantage of a sloppy headed clearance away from Pepe and he slotted the ball past Casillas to open the scoring. Di Maria had a penalty saved by Weidenfeller earlier on, a tense game ahead?

Quick and effective: Reus broke the deadlock after 25 minutes for the hosts

Talisman: Reus celebrates his first goal of the night to give Dortmund hope of a comeback

Wet surface: Di Maria lost his footing and had his early penalty saved by Weidenfeller

Under pressure: Weidenfeller did well to deny Di Maria's penalty, even though he mis-kicked the ball

25: Verratti is perhaps harshly given a yellow card after a trip on Oscar outside the box, Chelsea have a potential goal-scoring opportunity now.

26: GOOD SAVE! Sirigu has to stretch to deny Lampard's swerving free-kick from hitting the back of the net from another awkward angle, the strike was swerving towards goal and he reacted quickly enough to see where the ball was going and take action! Still 0-0.  

29: Oscar and David Luiz both have long-range efforts comfortably saved by Sirigu as Chelsea look to break the deadlock in-front of the home crowd. 

31: GOAL! Chelsea have broken the deadlock, great timing! After Hazard's injury departure, Schurrle was expected to step up and perform well to help his team to overturn the deficit, and he's only gone and done it! 

Against the odds: Brought on to replace Hazard, Schurrle scores the opener for Chelsea

A flick on from a Chelsea throw-in falls to Schurrle who has no problem slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net past Sirigu to make it 1-0! Can they do it? 

33: Half-hearted penalty appeal denied by Chelsea, after Schurrle darts inside the box but loses his footing next-to Verratti, slides onto the floor expecting contact from the young Italian midfielder and the referee waves play on. 
Replays show that there was barely any contact, good decision by the referee. Spot on. 

36: He will NOT want to see that again! An inviting free-kick from Lampard is whipped into the box and after a rebound, the ball falls to Cahill who slices the ball well wide of the goal, over the bar. 
Chelsea dominant now, and you can tell that PSG's rhythm has been disrupted after the opener.

37: Great last-ditch tackle by Brazilian defender Thiago Silva who does well to deny the ongoing Eto'o whose running at full speed towards the ball and ends up looking worse for wear after the challenge. 
Looks bad on the replay, but the stretcher is not needed and he gingerly limps off the pitch to receive treatment. 

GOAL UPDATE:
Comeback kings? It's not over yet but you feel that this could be a historic night for Dortmund if they keep this up!

2-0 to the hosts, with Reus completing his break after Lewandowski's shot hits the post and the German slams the rebound into the net past Casillas. Game on!

Back in it? Dortmund struggled in the first leg, but they've played much better tonight!

39: Cavani is given a yellow card for standing in-front of Luiz as he tries to take a quick free-kick, although he feels annoyed as he believes Luiz kicked the ball at him deliberately to get him booked. 
He will now miss PSG's next European game, whether it be in the semi-finals or otherwise. Harsh.

40: Lampard "takes one for the team" after he cynically chops Lavezzi to stop him from counter attacking with the ball at his feet, the referee blows his whistle and gives Lampard a yellow card. He knew what he was doing, but now he has to be careful. 

42: Schurrle tries to counter attack with pace, but he is closed down effectively by three PSG players who track back to pressurise and defend. 

44: Good punch by Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech who clears the danger after an inswinging ball from a PSG free-kick.
He has had barely anything to do in the first-half and PSG manager Laurent Blanc will be hoping his side will resolve that in the second 45. Looks as if it will stay 1-0 to Chelsea until half-time at least. 

45: The fourth official puts his electronic board up, signalling for just one minute of stoppage time at the end of an entertaining first-half. 

45+1: The referee blows his whistle to end the first-half at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea the happier of the two sides going into the break. 
However, they know that the match is not finished yet and they still need to score (and not concede) in order to qualify, which is not going to be easy. 

PSG need to stop conceding needless fouls because Chelsea are effective at set-pieces and could be 3-0 up at half-time if Sirigu had not done well to deny Lampard's deflected free-kick strike and Cahill had not sliced his strike wide.

PSG also need to pass the ball around more and make runs into space (finding the player in space with a pass) like they did in the first leg in France last week, otherwise they will be pressured off the ball and Chelsea will continue to counter attack, which could prove costly for their Champions League hopes. 

Schurrle's strike just proves that the tie is not over, but who will respond best after the break?

20:47 - The referee blows his whistle to begin the second-half of action at Stamford Bridge, after the PSG players form a huddle and try to motivate themselves to regain control in the tie. 
Big 45 minutes ahead. 

45: No substitutes for either side as the game gets underway again. 

51: CLOSE! Schurrle almost makes it 2-0 to The Blues after having a stinging effort strike the top of the crossbar after Willian's cut-back near the touchline. 

52: The crossbar saves PSG from conceding again as Chelsea have a free-kick 20 yards out after Lucas clatters into a Chelsea player clumsily near the box. Good chance this for The Blues.

Oscar and David Luiz stand over the set-piece, who will take it? Oscar goes for the strike.... OFF THE BAR AGAIN! 
Oscar with a curled strike over the PSG wall, over Sirigu who can only dive helplessly but hits the crossbar. Chelsea are pushing for another goal and the momentum has well and truly shifted!

Perhaps a smart move by Blanc, who replaces young Verratti who is already on a yellow card with former Newcastle midfielder Cabaye who was signed for £20million pounds in January.
Helps to solidify the team, relieve some tension and pressure on Matuidi and Motta in the hub of midfield.

56: Ivanovic concedes a free-kick just outside the box after a mis-timed lunge at Matuidi on the left flank and is consequently given a yellow card by the referee. He'll miss Chelsea's next European match. 

60: Cameras show that Chelsea strikers Demba Ba and Fernando Torres are both warming-up on the touchline, preparing to be potential replacements as Mourinho ponders another change. 

Meanwhile, PSG enjoy a short spell of pressure on Chelsea, with a corner being headed over Cech's goal by Cavani. They need to continue doing this, and eventually get a goal if they want to be more comfortable than they currently are.

IF Chelsea score and the game finishes 2-0, Chelsea WILL go through. This is why PSG need to test Cech and push for an equaliser relatively quickly, because Chelsea can strike at any time. 

64: Senegalese striker Demba Ba is preparing to come on for Chelsea as the hosts have a corner cleared away by Cavani at the near post. 

66: Chelsea SUB:

An attacking-minded change by Mourinho, and who can blame him? His side just need one more goal and Ba could be the man to provide it for him.

Lampard did well in midfield and controlled the tempo of the game, getting involved in tackles and pushing forward, but he is already on a yellow card and the last thing Mourinho needs is to go down to ten-men, no matter how good Lampard's temperament is. 

67: A good Chelsea counter attack after Ba does well to stretch for a ball, finding Schurrle who has an ambitious effort on-goal towards Sirigu who was off his line and not expecting a shot.

A good acrobatic save by the Italian denies Schurrle from scoring again, PSG need to be quicker off the ball and retain ball possession because they are not passing the ball well enough to keep it. 

Here's a quote for PSG:
"Keep the ball. If you keep the ball, your opponent cannot score." - that's not me encouraging them to "park the bus" because it will invite more pressure, but PASS and MOVE. 

70: Both Chelsea and Dortmund are looking for comebacks tonight, and both sides are relatively close to sealing it!
In the match between Dortmund and Real, Mkhitaryan has just hit the post after a great through ball by Reus and Dortmund should arguably be ahead now.
2-0 still in Germany, 1-0 in London. 

72: PSG are preparing a substitution to bring on fresh legs:

Lavezzi has not had the same desired effect as he had last week, but he has been important for PSG going forward. Pastore scored a wonder goal against Chelsea late on last Wednesday, and Blanc will be hoping that he could help the team to score again tonight. Just under 20 minutes plus stoppages to play, tense finale ahead.. 

73: Good defensive work from Cavani to intercept a pass from Willian, before being dispossessed by Luiz as he passes the ball back to Terry to restart the passing move. 

75: PSG go on the counter attack with Pastore picking up the ball near the centre circle, driving forward near the box and crossing the ball towards Cavani who is denied by a surging run from Azpilicueta, the ball falls to Brazilian full-back Maxwell who has an attempted swing at the ball, but it does not trouble Cech and skids past the post. 

77: Great ball by Cabaye from the centre-circle across into the box, which falls to Cavani who controls the ball perfectly but has a strike towards goal dip over Cech and go over the bar! 

One of the most clear-cut opportunities of the night for PSG, not taken by Cavani who probably should have done better with the shot but could not adjust his footing in time. Unlucky. 

Just before that, Ba had a penalty appeal denied after he ran into the box, pushed the ball past Thiago Silva but ran straight into him. Probably the right decision again, Ba went down too easily and knew he was not getting the ball in the end.

Unlucky not to score with the free-kick, which was well-struck and beat everyone apart from the woodwork. 

83: The Chelsea supporters are willing their team on as they look to score again, while Real Madrid go close to ending Dortmund's hopes of a shock comeback with Benzema being denied from close range with a good save from Weidenfeller. 

Scores are still the same as they were at half-time in both matches though.

A defensive-minded change for Blanc as he replaces Brazilian winger Lucas with young talented centre-back Marquinhos to try and keep the PSG back-line tight with a few minutes plus stoppages to play. 

86: GOAL! What did I say? Nothing is impossible! Demba Ba proves his doubters wrong to make it 2-0 to Chelsea after getting a light flick off the ball as The Blues flood over-the-top deliveries into the PSG half and it finally works, dramatically as the ball beats all of the PSG players and falls to the substitute who taps the ball past a helpless Sirigu. 

Full stretch: Ba scored late on (86') with a dink over Sirigu to sink PSG's hopes of qualifying.

Twist: Ba celebrates his late winner to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead with minutes to play!

88: The Chelsea supporters go wild as they try to comprehend the fact that they may be progressing to the semi-finals of this season's Champions League. 

90: The fourth official has signalled for 4 minutes of stoppage time, much to the frustration and anxiety of Chelsea supporters who are begging for the final whistle as PSG push for a late winner.

90+2: PSG have a corner, with Sirigu pushing himself up the field to get involved in their last-gasp attempt to get into the Last 4.

90+4: The referee blows his whistle to end the match at Stamford Bridge, to roars from Chelsea supporters and relief from the Chelsea players who have battled their way into the Last 4 with a solid performance without going into top gear. 

PSG were eventually punished after a flawed game-plan (invite pressure, defend well and score on the counter attack seeming as they had a comfortable aggregate lead) was exploited by Mourinho's men, who kept up the pressure in a heavily-tense match for both sides.

An entertaining match for the neutral, and Chelsea go on to the semi-finals to continue their Champions League adventure, already dreaming about a potential repeat of their triumph in Munich, 2012. 

Meanwhile in the other quarter-final tie, Real Madrid have remarkably held on to record a 3-2 aggregate win in Germany against Bundesliga side Dortmund, who should count themselves extremely unlucky not to progress to the Last 4 after a valiant effort in-front of their loyal home support. 

A brace from Reus was impressive but not enough for Dortmund as they were left to ponder if they had taken their chances (especially Mkhitaryan!), a cruel way to get knocked-out especially as they dominated a Real side which looked ordinary without Ronaldo.
