Capital One Cup 3rd Round Match Results and Today's EPL Matches:

Hello and welcome to my LATEST EPL blog post.

I talk about all of the Capital One Cup 3rd Round Match Results, plus the previews of the Weekend's EPL Matches including Arsenal vs Chelsea and Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuesday's Results:

Chelsea 6 Wolves 0

Chelsea thrashed Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers by 6 goals to nil at Stamford Bridge.

Forwards Fernando Torres, Victor Moses, midifelder Juan Mata, defender Gary Cahill, full-back Ryan Bertrand and defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu (penalty) all scored for The Blues.

Early opener: Defender Gary Cahill celebrates his 4th minute goal against Wolves
3-0: Juan Mata celebrates his goal
Crawley Town 2 Swansea 3

Swansea moved into the 4th Round, with a 3-2 win over League 2 side Crawley Town.

They played a second-string side but Spainish midfielder Michu, striker Danny Graham and defender Garry Monk all scored for the visitors.

Simpson and Akpan both scored for Crawley, but it was not enough to progress to the 4th Round.

Leeds United 2 Everton 1

Yes, you saw the result correctly. Everton were BEATEN by Leeds in the 3rd Round.

That is all I have to say on the matter.

Despite having a second team out, David Moyes' men should have beaten Leeds pretty comfortably.

Early shock: Adam White scores for Leeds in the 4th minute to give them the lead at Elland Road.
Beat Tim Howard: White breaks the deadlock in the 4th minute.

Manchester City 2 Aston Villa 4 (AET)

This match was played at The Ethiad Stadium as the defending EPL champions were DEFEATED by Aston Villa.

Mario Balotelli broke the deadlock in the 27th minute.
Full-back Kolarov made it 2-1 in the 64th minute, after former Villa midfielder Gareth Barry scored an own goal in the 59th minute.

1-0: Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli scores his 1st goal of the season to give City the lead against Villa.
Shock win: Aston Villa players celebrate their 4-2 win over Manchester City to move into the 4th Round.

Aston Villa winger Gabriel Agbonlahor scored a double (1 in  the 70th minute, 1 in the 113rd minute) and Charles N'Zogbia sealed a win against City and a place in the 4th Round.

MK Dons 0 Sunderland 2

Sunderland beat MK Dons by a 2-0 margin on Tuesday, but this was not with 11 men on the field.

Captain and defensive midfielder Lee Catermole was given a straight red card in the 32nd minute after a dangerous and late tackle.

Captain's off: The referee brandishes a straight red card to Sunderland's Lee Catermole after a dangerous tackle.
Midfielder Craig Gardner scored a free-kick in the 54th minute, before James McClean doubled Sunderland's lead in the 82nd minute.

Game over: Sunderland's young winger James McClean scores against MK Dons in the 82nd minute.
Specialist: Craig Gardner scores against MK Dons, with a powerful free-kick to make it 1-0 to The Black Cats.
  Southampton 2 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Jay Rodriguez scored twice, as Southampton beat Sheffield Wednesday at home to move into the 4th Round of the Capital One Cup.

He scored in the 30th minute, and in the 78th minute from the penalty spot.

West Ham United 1 Wigan Athletic 4

Slightly surprising result from Upton Park, as newly promoted West Ham were thrashed at home by Wigan 4-1.

Modibo Maiga broke the deadlock in the 7th minute for West Ham, but Mauro Boselli equalised in the 14th minute.

Defender Ivan Ramis made it 2-1 in the 38th minute before Boselli scored his second of the match just before half-time in the 41st minute to make it 3-1.

Striker Jordi Gomez made it 4-1 in the 84th minute from the penalty spot to rub salt into West Ham's wounds.

Wednesday's Action:

Arsenal 6 Coventry City 1

The result does not really surprise many - seeming as Arsenal are in-form and facing a Coventry side who are League 1.

Having said this, they put only two first-team players in the squad (arguably) with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain playing behind Olivier Giroud in attack.

Striker Olivier Giroud broke his scoring duck for his new club, scoring the first goal of many in the 39th minute after chipping the goalkeeper cheekily.

About time: Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud scores his first goal for The Gunners to break the deadlock against Coventry.
Expectations are high: Giroud points to the sky after scoring his first goal in 6 matches for Arsenal.

FACT: That was Giroud's first goal for Arsenal in 6 matches after a £12million move from Montpellier in the summer transfer window.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, before fringe winger Andrey Arshavin made it 3-0 in the 64th minute.

One for the future: Arsenal young midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scores against Coventry to make it 2-0
Good experience: Chamberlain celebrates his goal with his Arsenal team-mates.
Fringe player: Arsenal winger Andrey Arshavin scores his first goal in 2012 to make it 3-0 in the 64th minute.
Theo Walcott scored in the 73rd minute, before 19-year-old striker Callum Ball gave Coventry a consolation goal in the 78th minute.

First of 2 goals: Arsenal winger Theo Walcott makes it 4-0.
Defender Ignasi Miguel made an instant impact, scoring straight after Ball's consolation in the 79th minute to make it 5-1.

Instant impact: Arsenal's young defender Ignasi Miguel reacts to conceding a goal - by scoring a minute later.
Walcott put the icing on the cake for Arsenal with his second of the night in the 89th minute.

2 for me: Theo Walcott celebrates his second with the Arsenal faithful.

Carlisle 0 Tottenham Hotspur 3

Tottenham comfortably sealed their place in the 4th Round, with a 3-0 win over League 1 outfit Carlisle at Brunton Park.

Defender Jan Vertonghen opened the scoring for the away side in the 37th minute.

Fringe winger Andros Townsend made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute and Gylfi Sigurdsson made sure Spurs won with a goal in the 89th minute.

Bullet: Tottenham's young winger Andros Townsend scored to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

Manchester United 2 Newcastle United 1

Both teams put out their second string players at Old Trafford on Wednesday because they are both in European competition.

Notably, United with matches in midweek coming up in the Champions League against FC Cluj.

Fringe midfielder Anderson scored his first goal for Manchester United in 2012 just before half-time in the 44th minute.

Midfielder Tom Cleverley scored his first goal in an United shirt in the 58th minute.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was NOT happy with his team's performance, and replaced Marveaux with Papiss Cisse.

Cisse went on to score minutes after coming on in the 62nd minute, with an unmarked header at the far post.

Newcastle continued to press, with Cisse having an amazing shot stopped by the crossbar.

He chested the ball, before controlling the ball up in the air and taking an overhead kick from 23 yards out which beat the jumping David De Gea.

Manchester United ended up winning the match, luckily and progress into the 4th Round - but they will not be happy with who they are playing against....

Norwich 1 Doncaster 0

Surprise surprise. Norwich beat Doncaster 1-0.

Alex Tettey scored the only goal of the match in the 23rd minute.

QPR 2 Reading 3

This was an exciting match, as QPR hosted fellow EPL side Reading.

Winger David Holiett broke the deadlock in the 14th minute for QPR to score his first goal in a QPR shirt after leaving Blacburn in the summer as a free agent.

Defender Kasper Gorkss equalised for Reading in the 16th minute.

Striker Djibril Cisse made it 2-1 to QPR in the second half, after 71 minutes.

Nicky Shorey equalised for Reading in the 76th minute, BEFORE striker Pavel Pogrebnyak made it 3-2 in the 81st minute to win the match late on for the away side.

Last-minute winner: Reading striker Pavel Pogbrenyak celebrates his winner for Reading against QPR.

West Brom 1 Liverpool 2

Liverpool got their revenge after losing 3-0 on the opening day of the season.

On-loan Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin scored twice (17th and 82nd minute) for the away side.

Who needs Real Madrid? On-loan Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin scores his first goal against West Brom.

Meanwhile George Tamas scored for West Brom.

4th Round Draw:

Sunderland vs Middlesbrough

Swindon Town vs Aston Villa

Wigan Athletic vs Bradford

Leeds United vs Southampton

Norwich City vs Tottenham

Liverpool vs Swansea - ONE TO WATCH

Chelsea vs Manchester United - Crunch match

Reading vs Arsenal

To be honest, the 4th round ties are pretty interesting this year, especially as Chelsea and Manchester United go head-to-head, knowing that only one side can move through into the 5th Round.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Wigan, Southampton, Sunderland and Aston Villa should all comfortably qualify.

Liverpool vs Swansea will be one to watch, but Chelsea vs Manchester United will take all of the headlines.

Today's EPL Matches:

Today's Early Afternoon Match:

Arsenal 1 Chelsea 2

This match was played at The Emirates Stadium, as both undefeated sides Arsenal and Chelsea faced each other in their first London derby of the season.

Striker Fernando Torres took advantage of some poor marking by Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny to give Chelsea the lead in the 20th minute with an aerial tap-in into the top corner of the net, out of goalkeeper Vito Mannone's reach.

Arsenal forward Gervinho equalised with a powerful shot into the top corner away from Petr Cech in the 41st minute.

This was after a low ball by midfielder Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain was not cleared away by full-back Ashley Cole.

Chelsea regained the lead in the 53rd minute, after Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen fouled outside the area.

Chelsea winger Juan Mata whipped a curling effort into the box, which was made for a Chelsea player to head into the net, but the ball beat all the players inside the 6 yard box and deflected off Koscielny's shin pad past Mannone into the net.

Arsenal had gone behind again in the match, and despite a late charge with Podolski and Chamberlain looking dangerous on the counter attack, Olivier Giroud missed a golden chance to equalise in the last minute.

Everton 3 Southampton 1

This match was played at Goodison Park, as Everton hosted Southampton.

Southampton's record £12million signing Gaston Ramirez broke the deadlock for the away side after only 6 minutes.

Everton midifelder Leon Osman equalised for The Toffees in the 25th minute, before Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic made it 2-1 in the 32nd minute.

Taking the lead: Everton striker Nikica Jelavic scores in the 32nd minute to make it 2-1.

Jelavic made it 3-1 in the 38th minute, and that is how the match finished.

Everton moved up to 2nd place, with 13 points.
They are now 3 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Meanwhile Southampton are in 17th place, joint on points with 18th placed Norwich and only 1 point away from 20th.

3rd goal of the season: Jelavic celebrates his two goals with Pienaar and Mirallas.

Fulham 1 Manchester City 2

This match was played at Craven Cottage, as West London club Fulham hosted defending EPL champions Manchester City.

The major team news for Fulham was that £5million striker Dimitar Berbatov was not going to feature against his old rivals, due to a hip injury picked up during training.*

*He will be out for two weeks.

Striker Mladen Petric broke the deadlock for the home side in the 10th minute, from the penalty spot.

Dispatched past Joe Hart: Fulham striker Mladen Petric scored in the 10th minute.
Breakthrough: Petric celebrates his goal against Manchester City with team-mates Sidwell, Duff and Ruiz.

FACT: That is Mladen Petric's 3rd goal for Fulham - from 4 matches

Manchester City's top goalscorer last season Sergio Aguero equalised in the 43rd minute, just before half-time.

Yes! Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero celebrates his 43rd minute goal against Fulham.

Fulham hung on and just as it was looking as though they were going to keep a point against City, substitute Edin Dzeko popped up and scored for the visitors in the 87th minute to take all three points.

Match-winner: Manchester City striker and substitute Edin Dzeko celebrates his 87th minute goal.

Norwich 2 Liverpool 5
