Summer Signing Review - Luiz Gustavo:

Well, well, well.. this signing just sums up Arsenal's transfer window this summer - terrible. Meanwhile many of their rivals have splashed the cash on very good players, they have signed one player..... a young French striker Yaya Sanogo who joined on a free transfer.

If you have not heard already in the news, Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo has joined fellow Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a five-year contract deal with the transfer fee thought to be around £15million pounds.

Done deal: Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo has completed a £15m deal to Wolfsburg.

Here are Arsenal's "transfer targets" who have failed to materialise:

Wayne Rooney - Perhaps only a rumour, Rooney admitted he wanted to leave and Arsenal were interested despite not making a formal offer for the Manchester United striker. Chelsea are the only side who currently are trying to signing him.

Undecided future: Man United striker Wayne Rooney is wanted by Chelsea and admitted he wants to leave.

Julio Cesar - QPR goalkeeper admitted he wanted to stay in London at the end of the season after an impressive and consistent first season in England.
QPR were relegated, and Arsenal decided to confirm their interest in him as they wanted him to rival Szczesny for the No.1 spot. Due to the lack of activity over Cesar, he has said he does not mind staying at QPR.

Lack of urgency: Julio Cesar is wanted by several clubs in Europe, but is happy to stay at QPR for now.

Marouane Fellaini - Arsenal reportedly activated the Belgian midfielder's release clause of £25million pounds at the end of June, but new manager Roberto Martinez confirmed that no bids were made for Fellaini despite rumours and interest.

Cesc Fabregas - This was not as much of a target, more of a rumour. Fabregas was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, but there was a clause in the Spanish playmaker's contract which meant that Arsenal had "first pick" on where Fabregas went, he could return to Arsenal instead of joining United.

Stefan Jovetic - Jovetic was an Arsenal target for 2 years, but this transfer window he has completed a big money move to Manchester City.
Moral of the story: Rumours are not always true

Joining the big boys: Jovetic (middle) has completed a £20m pound deal to join Manchester City along with new team-mates Navas and Negredo.
Gonzalo Higuain - Now a Napoli player, Argentine striker Higuain was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during the start of the transfer window. A transfer fee of around £24million pounds was agreed for Higuain, personal terms were completed and the only thing left was a medical, however Real Madrid wanted more for him - which made transfer talks over the player break down.

Napoli came in with a £30million pound on Higuain, seeing as they are comfortable to spend that kind of money to replace Cavani, and he has joined the Serie A giants.

New talisman: Pressure and expectation will be on Napoli's new striker Gonzalo Higuain - who could be at Arsenal right now.

Luis Suarez - The major transfer saga in this window, Luis Suarez and his relations with Liverpool. He had confirmed he wanted to leave the club two months ago at the end of the season, with Arsenal the frontrunners to sign him.

The Gunners made 2 formal transfer bids for Suarez, the first was rejected and the second was controversial. Since Liverpool confirmed they would "Not accept any bids under £40million pounds" Arsenal made a bid of £40million pounds + £1 to activate Suarez's release clause.

Will Suarez join now? Highly unlikely.

Bernard - Transfer linked Brazillian midfielder Bernard was apparently moving to The Emirates from the Liga Do Brasil, until Ukrainian side Shakthar Donetsk stepped in and made an offer that Atletico Miniero could not refuse, under the noses of Arsenal.

Blink and you've missed him: Brazillian youngster Bernard has joined Shakthar Donetsk instead of Arsenal.
Luiz Gustavo - And the latest player to have snubbed Arsenal is Gustavo! The Brazillian defensive midfielder joined Wolfsburg this morning on a 5-year contract deal despite saying that he would have liked to join Arsenal...

Yaya Sanogo - The only signing that Arsenal have confirmed this transfer window, a free transfer from a Ligue 2 club. Has potential the young Frenchman, but is unlikely to play in the first-team this season.

Just under 24 hours to go until the new EPL football season starts... are you ready?! :)
